SW Div.1 Wrap Up - Rd.15 (played 15th August 2015) ................................................................................................................................... ................................................................................................................................................................................ In the penultimate fixture round of the season there were many tight results. West End had a narrow 1-0 win over Logan Metro, as did Raceview over North Pine Baptist. Westminster had a gritty 1-0 win away to Rosewood United and clinch a top three placing. Logan Uniting took the three points at home to Brisbane Valley. ..................................................................................................................................................................................... In the final game of the round, a below strength Blackstone United travelled to Brittain Park and faced the exciting. young Salisbury Baptist team brimming with confidence after some excellent results in recent times against the high-flying teams. A polished first half saw them 3-0 up at half-time and no guessing who scored the first two goals..... the competition's leading scorer Nikki Hubbard. The initial 30 minutes of the second half was much the same with two goals by versatile sweeper, Nicola Harwood - trying to impress her coach, Andrew Haywood, that she can actually play in the attacking half too!?! :-) But, the never-say-die attitude of the Salisbury Baptist team came to the fore in the final quarter of an hour and they dominated play and were rewarded with the final goal of the game. ..................................................................................................................................................................................... Whilst both teams played hard and fair, the Salisbury management expressed their gratitude in the care shown by the Blackstone girls when their girls went down injured during the game and also asked about them after the game. Even though the scoreline seemed as it was a goal-fest to Blackstone, the home team coach and manager praised the humble nature of the victorious Blackstone team and nominated them as truly the best team in the competition in their team performance (as indicated on the ladder) but more importantly as the best team to display Christian values, on and off the park, in both fixtures this year. I'm sure there a few more teams who display their great traits, but, wouldn't it be nice if we had all the teams in SW Div.1 demonstrate this same attitude!?! ''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' In the final round next week, who will be the 4th team to join Premiers Blackstone United, West End and Westminster in the finals? North Pine Baptist are away to Logan Metro, Raceview are away to Brisbane Valley, and Rosewood United have the toughest task when they travel to Blackstone United. The final two games will go down to the wire, where to exciting young teams in Logan Uniting and Salisbury Baptist travel to Westminster and West End respectively. ..................................................................................................................................................................................... SM Div.1 Wrap Up - Rd.15 (played 15th August 2015) ................................................................................................................................... ..................................................................................................................................................................................... As in SW1, the penultimate round of the men's comp also had some interesting results. Blackstone United won 1-0 versus the Latin Golden Boys in a tough encounter. St Pauls won comfortably away 7-2 to Whitehill to bounce back after dropping points last week. The Whitehill boys continue to score goals in every game!!! Sunnybank Saints had an important 2-0 win on the road against North Pine Baptist. Brisbane Athletic maintained top position with a 3-1 home win versus Mansfield Eagles and may have dented the Eagles hope for the finals. In the final game, Logan Metros remarkable transformation from the beginning of the season continued with a strong 2-0 home win against Westminster, whose recent from has been patchy. ..................................................................................................................................................................................... With Bris Athletic, St Pauls and Westminster in the top three positions, the final place for the finals will be fought out by: Mansfield Eagles vs North Pine Baptist and the match of the round between Sunnybank Saints and Logan Metro. Best of luck to all teams for the final fixture round of 2015 and remember, to play hard and fair, and be the first to congratulate your opposing players and coaches, and the referees. You would not be playing in our competition without them!.......................................................... The next week of fixtures and the following three weeks of finals action will bring the club season to an end before the focus turns to the Nationals in late Sept/early Oct. "Go the Maroons"!!!
